Dubbed the "poor man's roof", asbestos is a booming industry in India. Backed by government concessions and subsidies, asbestos cement roofing is steadily replacing safer options such as thatch, tile or steel. Beyond asbestos, nearly half a million tons of e-waste are dumped in India yearly, which could double in the next ten years due to liberal economic…

It's so bright and vivid; what does it mean? In Douglas Adams' The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, 42 is the number from which all meaning ("the meaning of life, the universe, and everything") could be…

"In Russia there comes the hope of the world, not as that sometimes termed of the communistic, or Bolshevik, no; but freedom, freedom! That each man will live for his fellow man! The principle has been born. It will take years for it to be crystallised, but out of Russia comes again…

Lacey Jones said… OMG I had no idea how poisonous fluoride is! I want that water filter! Rethinking all those times I went to the dentist and said yes to getting that extra fluoride treatment. THEY ARE TRYING TO KILL US!
Marni E. Goldberg said… I just followed a couple of your fluoride links, and now they are missing from the feed. Did you remove them? The are very informative. Especially when it is take for granted (through marketing) that fluoride is good. Will you please post a blog on this subject with photos and video links?
The blog post system is user friendly. You just need to write your opinion, have the photos ready to add, and links to your videos. Embedding is simple once you get the hang of it, but I can do that for you if you just provide the other text and photo.

Kurou Masaki said… Re: 70,000 laid off in Ethiopia ... Africa is the next Asia. Since China, Japan, Taiwan, Korea, and other countries are experiencing their economic boom they are soon going to become savvy enough to demand more money, and when they do Africa becomes the next cheap labor sweatshop continent. I had a friend who was an Econ major/Mandarin minor and studied in China for awhile. Before he left for China he said, I probably should have learned Swahili. These 70,000 are probably temporarily laid off, giving these foreign companies time to build new plants so they can employee 70,000 starved workers at a very cheap rate because they've been denied work and will take anything! ... disgusting.
Kurou Masaki said… I was trying to post this in our conversation but for some reason it wasn't working. Anyway...that documentary was CNBC's The Baghdad Job and it was really interesting. It's so sad that Fallujah is suffering birth defects. Another HIroshima ... minus the A-Bomb.
Marni E. Goldberg said… Interesting reading, Crystal. We'll be adding a Book section soon. Would love to read a brief review of your recommends.
Kelly Wade said… I really like what you post! Nobody I hang with ever brings this stuff up and I'm always looking for interesting articles about our agricultural status. I love this site for just that - people here enjoy life and value their intellect. It's quite refreshing. Thanks for adding to the convo!
