MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) is a generally new sport that has been gaining more awareness thanks to the UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) a company that is regarded as the number one MMA organization. MMA is a full combat sport that allows the fighter to strike and grapple so they can mix certain disciplines from wrestling. boxing, ju-jitsu, judo, kickboxing, karate and any other martial art out there. Out of all the fighters there is one man regarded as the GOAT (greatest of all time) that man is Anderson "The Spider" Silva.
Anderson Silva is a Brazilian fighter that made his UFC debut in 2006 where he knocked out his opponent with a striking accuracy of 100% for the whole fight (a record he holds alone). He then knocked out the UFC middleweight champion in his next fight and since then has been undefeated. He holds the longest winning streak in UFC history with 15 consecutive wins and 10 tittle defenses. He is statistically the most accurate fighter in the world, managing to connect with almost everything he throws at his opponent. Below is a highlight of the man many regard as the #1 Pound for Pound fighter in the world.
Anderson Silva always said he found inspiration from Bruce Lee and Mohammed Ali and tries to mimic their styles. Anderson unbelievably seems to be able to slow time, like Neo from the Matrix and is always one step ahead of his opponent. He seems to fight like he is playing a chess match and can read his opponents moves, only to react in lighting fast speed. In the video below you will see highlights and slowed down footage of Anderson's fight against Forrest Griffin. You also hear Forrest's comments on the fight. Witness "The Spider" do what he does best.
For those who are new to MMA, you need to know that since the introduction of weight classes, time limits and other rules in the early 1990's there have been no deaths or serious injuries. While this sport was once seen as a human cockfighting freak show, it now has become a fast growing legitimate sport that boasts some of the worlds top athletes.

In MMA, if someone is knocked out the fight is stopped, if the fighter looks like he is in trouble (from strikes), the ref will stop the fight to make sure no unnecessary damage is taken. Whereas in boxing, if someone is knocked out, they let them keep fighting if they are able to stand back before up before the 10 second count.
Britt: The UFC and FOX came to a deal last year to partner up, so that one fight you saw was a taste of what was to come. In most UFC events there are 5-6 under card fights (watch on facebook/ or on FX) then there are 3 fights on the main card, a co-main event and the main event. So a normal event has about 10 fights, that one fight event on FOX will never happen again. All hardcore MMA fans were upset with that one fight because it was an hour of television for a fight most of us knew would end fast (they were heavyweights) but on Facebook they aired the co-main event but no other fights aired. A one fight event will NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN. Alot of people said the same thing you did and the UFC decided never again.
Their next FOX event is August 05 on Sunday, I highly recommend people watch it, the fights scheduled are going to be fireworks!! And there are like 4-5 fights.
Comment by Britt Hysen on July 28, 2012 at 12:59pm What I find so interesting about this sport is that companies spend millions of dollar in advertising around the event itself and within the less than a minute the fight is over. I saw this one showdown in Novemeber - there was SO much hype around the competitors, big sponsors were attached, the media was everywhere, the crowd was going wild, and when the bell rang, there was one punch to the head of the opponent and he was out. Game over. Winner. In less than 1 minute! It was crazy. All that excitement and money for a mere moment of entertainment.
Comment by Chris Michaels on July 28, 2012 at 10:23am I do enjoy watching UFC fights, they are today's gladiators. Risk their bodies for our entertainment. What do you think about the fighters and their extremely high risk for brain damage??
