I've always wanted to surf in a bioluminescent sea. Check out this video! In October 2011, San Diego experienced a Red Tide, meaning the phytoplankton consumed its coast and mixed with the algae-filled waters. The combination? A nocturnal glow show. Most common colors are blues and greens, but sometimes purple can be seen. The surfers in this video are actually causing them to beam brighter because of the disturbance to the water.
