Is the Science Channel Conditioning Us for Something Bigger?

I have always been a firm believer that we are not alone in the universe. It would be ridiculous and ignorant to think otherwise. Since learning about our solar system in 2nd grade, I have been fascinated by space and the existence of life. I've been noticing more recently that there is this explosive discussion revolving around what we know about our place in the universe.

To speak generally, our first exposure to aliens was through Steven Spielberg's classic, E.T. Then The Terminator came out and was a little too mature for us to initially understand as children. However, as aliens started being introduced to us on our pencils and notebooks as kids riding skateboards, we started recognizing "the little green man with long black eyes" as a cool thing. From my experience and exposure, I feel as though our generation is the first to have a larger percentage of people who don't deny extraterrestrial life. In high school, I started learning about quantum physics, then The Secret came out and became an overnight sensation, making the public glimpse at the possibility of creating your own reality. As we approached 2012, the History Channel released it's rather controversial series, Ancient Aliens, which is now in it's 3rd season and suggests alien life has been developing our human existence. Now the Science Channel has released the new series, Alien Encounters

What is Discovery Channel's ultimate purpose of airing such interesting and mind expanding content? (Discovery Channel owns History/Science Channels) Are they trying to condition us for galactic interaction? Are we on the verge of shifting into a new dimension and conscious phenomenon? Will aliens be revealing themselves sometime soon?

I find it highly intriguing that cable networks are trickling information that has been coaxing our acceptance of outer worldly beings for the past few years. Contact could be happening a lot sooner than we think, if not already happening. However, I don't feel the human race in general is ready for anything that extreme or drastic to enter and affect their conscious spheres. We have to first accept each other before we can accept alien beings.

Check out this preview of the Science Channel's Alien Encounters and tell me what you think is the true messaging behind this series. Are they trying to scare us into fearing aliens or consciously preparing us for experiencing new universal entities?
