Lance Armstrong stepped down today as the Chairman of LiveStrong, his charity for cancer of 15+ years. He did this a week after the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency reported that they discovered overwhelming evidence of Armstrong's use of a "sophisticated doping program" during his competitive years.
Armstrong's partner in the charity, Nike, has pulled their support of LiveStrong citing the controversy. Armstrong stays firm in his commitment to finding a cure for cancer and had this to say:
"My family and I have devoted our lives to the work of the foundation and that will not change," Armstrong said. "We plan to continue our service to the foundation and the cancer community. We will remain active advocates for cancer survivors and engaged supporters of the fight against cancer. And we look forward to an exciting weekend of activities marking the 15th anniversary of the foundation's creation."
Lance has always been an athlete I've looked up to. I'm really disappointed to see my childhood hero fall like this. If the evidence proves to be true, then it is a very sad day for all cyclists.
