Millennials: the most stressed out generation in America

Hey! Millenials? That's us! And we're the most stressed out generation in America. As a millenial, seeing that headline alone stresses me out.

Millenials are those ages 18-33 and are considered to be the most stressed out generation in the country, according to the American Psychological Association's annual Stress in America Survey. Why? Because expectations for Millennials are especially high with a huge emphasis on school. Once we get out of school, what we've learned in academics doesn't necessarily match with what's in the "real world". The challenge is in what happens after graduation. 1 in 2 college graduates are found jobless or unemployed. So all that studying late hours was for what again?

We've become the generation that pushes to be something for ourselves in our future, but are held back by the daily pressures and stresses of life. We're the "too busy" to have "my time" generation. And sometimes we need that daily 15 minutes to gather ourselves and pull away from what stresses us most. We tend to double book and occupy more of our time working, and not have enough time for really living. We also tend to stress out on things that aren't as big of a deal as it first seems and jump to the worst conclusions. Maybe all those zombie movies and The Walking Dead isn't talking about a zombie apocalypse, but rather that our generation has become zombies to living the usual daily routine of school, work, errands, and everything being a priority. We are a group of zombies going through life 24/7, we're just not eating each other up for breakfast.

As a Millennial, I say it's time to stop stressing ourselves out. I succumb to the pressures of every day life and I have to learn to set boundaries as well. We shouldn't be the most stressed out generation when we've got so many creative, entrepreneurial, and ambitious people. Less stress, more me time, more success!
