My most recent post was in regards to Hurricane Sandy and the unfortunate events of natural disasters. Today, we have been hit with an unforeseeable tragedy. A tragedy that came from the hands of humanity. Our country has experienced a substantial amount of cruelty within the years resulting in many tears and heavy hearts. None however, have been as evil as what took place this morning around 9:38 am.
The scene within the hallways of Sandy Hook Elementary located in Newtown, Connecticut is one I wouldn't wish upon anyone to witness, let alone classrooms full of innocent children. At least 27 lives (18 children and 9 adults) were taken too soon by the trigger finger of someone who must have been walking around carrying a world full of hate.
We are not born with evil hearts. That is what makes children so innocent and pure. That is what makes us adults, wish we had more of them in us. Their carefree spirit and genuine acts of love that are always carried with a smile. This is why we do so much to protect them. And that is what makes a day like today so hard to swallow.
I am not a parent. There is no way for me to imagine continuing life without the ability to watch my own child grow. The parents of both the children who lost their lives as well as the classmates of those children, will face many challenges. Challenges that no parent, nor child should experience.
My heart goes out to the families affected by such a malicious act but we must ask ourselves when enough is enough. It shouldn't have taken the loss of innocent children for us to do so.
Still at a loss for words…
