The Global Hip Hop Project
The project was borne out of a Friday afternoon link share in the office. Hard to say exactly where it started, but it involved each of us sharing some of our favorite foreign language, hip-hop inspired tunes.
As is inevitable when discussing such things now a days, someone threw down PSY – Gangnam Style.
Followed shortly thereafter by a submission from Italy, Caparezza’s – “Vengo dalla luna”
Which led me to dig through my iPod and come up with this Shazam capture from Breaking Bad, Ana Tijoux’s “1977”
And after that, I was hooked. There is a certain je ne sais quoi about the obscure lyrics set atop the familiar beats. So I’ve set out to fill a playlist of some of the best from the international hip hop world. A bit of internet sleuthing has already turned up some real gems, everything from French/American collaboration, to Danish-Pakistani anti-racisim rhymes, to the best Japanese female rapper you’ll hear today.

Now, I want to find more and I turn it over the collective hive mind of the community. Do you have any international hip hop that should be on the list? Send it over, I’d love to hear what you’re listening to. The parameters? There are none really. My preference is for lyrics in a foreign language but would consider some well mixed English lyrics as well.

These videos are great to watch. always been a friend of Hip-pop and it is cool to see Hip-pop is getting more popular all over the world.

This is so cool, Eric. I will try to find something unusual to contribute. Love these sexies posted by Christine. What a wicked video. Production quality is superb. Gangnam Style is pretty funny though I'm not sure the artist thinks of it that way. Would love to see his eyes!

Okay, throwing down some sexy Brown Eyed Girls from Korea. They were a huge hit a couple years back...the rave of Chinatown nightclubs with Abracadabra. These sistas mean business.

Not into hip hop, but it was fun watching all the international rappers. I think the Gangnam video was produced by the same crew that did the LMFAO video. Heard something like that over the weekend if this was the Asian viral video that everyone was referring to.
