Football (Soccer) is the world's most played and watched sport in the whole world. Country after country have fallen in love with the sport, unfortunately things have not gone as smoothly in the United States. Football fans are growing in the U.S as is their football league, The Major League Soccer (MLS). The league gets better every year and hosts some great recognizable football players like David Beckham, Thierry Henry, Robbie Keane, Landon Donovan and more. Even with all this talent, football is still a sport watched by a minority in the United States. Unfortunately this might mean football will never be a popular sport in the U.S and this worried me. Honestly its not about America liking football, the problem is that there are a lot of talented American players that may not get recognition due to the sport's status. Thankfully this is not the case because Europe has noticed the talent pool and have acquired some great American footballers. This summer (during the transfer market) more American players have joined top European teams, i have compiled a list of the best American footballers and the team/country they play in (under each photo).
Oguchi Onyewu - Plays for "Sporting" - Plays in the Portuguese League
Jozy Altidore - Plays for "AZ Alkmaar" - Plays in the Dutch League
Michael Bradley - Has just joined "AS Roma" - Plays in Italian League (Already has a starting position for the big club after scoring a goal in his first game)
Brad Fridel - Plays for "Tottenham" - Plays in the English League (His team is currently ranked 4th in the league)
Tim Howard - Plays for "Everton" - Plays in the English League
Clint Dempsey - Plays for "Fulham" - Plays in English League (He is rumored this summer to join Liverpool, one of the biggest clubs in England)
Things are looking good for young players dreaming to make it big and join some of the best teams in world. Thanks to these Americans paving the way, it wouldn't surprise me one day to see an American wear the jersey of Manchester United, Barcelona or Real Madrid.

Comment by Marisa Mostek on August 8, 2012 at 12:44pm I think it's fantastic that the following for soccer in the US seems to be growing. I was in Spain for part of the European cup and it was so exciting! I just think people here do not follow the sport as much because they did not grow up watching it. I definitely noticed a good amount of people watched the European Cup final which was encouraging.
Comment by Chris Michaels on August 2, 2012 at 3:45pm I have played soccer my whole life and while Americans are making progress there is still a prejudiced against American soccer players in Europe. Many struggle to see any playing time and tend to move from team to team.
