The 2012 Men's Olympic Basketball team is under a lot of pressure to perform well at this year's Olympics. The pressure has been put on the team by their own doing. Last week Kobe Bryant said that this team is better than the 1992 Dream Team.
Let's put the Dream Team into perspective:
11 Hall of Famers
32 the closest, in points, an opponent came to the Dream Team
43.8 average margin of victory
117.3 scoring average
So not only does this year's Olympic team have to win the gold, they have to do so in incredible fashion. Bryant's comment has left no room for error. Some may say this is unfair pressure but it is up to the leader of the team to motivate them to be great. One can argue that the rest of the world has caught up a bit in talent but if this year's team wants to compare themselves to the Dream Team they will have to go out and prove it.
So far in the warm-up games to the Olympics the National team has performed exceptionally well. The team has won all three games beating the Dominican Republic 113-59, Brazil 80-69, and Great Britain 118-78. This means they have beaten their opponents by an average of 35 points a game while scoring an average of 104 points a game. Pretty impressive but they will need to step up their game come the Olympic Games to reach the level of the Dream Team.
It should be a great time for these players and I cannot wait to see if they can keep up the dominating performance.

Comment by Britt Hysen on July 20, 2012 at 5:22pm Jordan was HUGE in the 90s. I remember going to the premiere of Space Jam and learning about the top basketball players of the time. That became a favorite and now classic childhood film!
**"Whoop there it is!"**
Comment by Chris Michaels on July 20, 2012 at 5:13pm haha Thanks! I was also 4 yrs old and didn't learn to respect the Dream Team for a few more years. I grew up in the Chicago area so the Bulls were so popular with Jordan that I fell in love with basketball at an early age. I had a basketball hoop before I could walk!
Comment by Madison Hart on July 20, 2012 at 4:49pm I was 4 but my dad was all about the Dream Team. He even threw a big party. Awww childhood memories. Thanks for the stats, Chris. I'm going to gain some respect with these. They're going to be like 'What?...no way. And I'm going to be...Google it! lol
