On May 21st, this past Monday, a tragic accident occurred in my homeland, Albania. A school bus holding 33 students suffered a fatal crash taking the lives of 13 college students and leaving many more in brutal conditions. As the nice weather was approaching, the students planned to take a weekend trip with all their friends South of Albania to enjoy the beautiful virgin beaches that the country has to offer. Nobody on that bus expected such an accident to happen and have the course of their lives change forever.
I could not help but think of the lives that were ended that day and mourn for the families that will have to live the rest of their lives without their loved one.
I dedicate this poem to all who passed away and to their grieving friends and family. May they rest in peace.
UNEXPECTED BITTERNESS
I woke up excited about the day ahead
All the fun and relaxation that was planned
I did not think this would be the end
It rumbled and tumbled to the very bottom
I looked left and right and none of it was humble
I called out to God
Little did I know he'd answer
That he'd say "Come my child"
And save me from this disaster
Mother, I will miss you
Father, please stay strong
Sister, you're my idol
And brother, a hero with a heart made of gold
I will be by you
Each and every moment
& when you feel the heartache ease
Please, do not feel guilty
It simply means I'm here
My life was taken early
My journey's end arrived
But I have just one thing to ask
& Please, listen to it well
Promise me you'll all live for me?
And smile for me
And breath for me
Because if I could have one more chance
I'd gather you all
And I'd proudly say...
"Ju dua me gjith shpirt..Ju mua me jepni drit"
With that I now will leave
In Peace ... In Peace
Pure Peace
Because nothing hurts up Here
We should never take life for granted, never take each other for granted and no matter what our circumstances, we should always remember..Where there is life, there is hope.
May all the students who lost their lives May 21, 2012 in Himare, Albania rest in peace and may God give their loved ones strength to make it day by day.

Comment by Britt Hysen on May 25, 2012 at 5:43pm How bittersweet indeed. I'm deeply sorry for the lost of so many young hearts. Their spirits are free as they radiate pure light down from the heavens. This poem was a beautiful reminder to appreciate the wonderful gift that is life itself. Our time in this human experience is limited, but our souls live on forever.
