I've gotten more involved lately with what is called the Welfare Rights Committee! They have been around for many many years and although men are certainly welcome and involved, the group consists of many women of diverse backgrounds. So far all of these individuals have been incredibly kind in making sure people have transportation to events, childcare if need be, even snacks at meetings. They happen to be in solidarity with Occupy, so a number of Occupiers are part of this group, but the group remains its own entity as well if that makes sense.
I have really enjoyed getting involved in this group as issues of poverty (and consequently Welfare Rights which is so related to poverty) are dear to my heart having served as an AmeriCorps/VISTA volunteer at one point in life, trying to fight the battle against poverty.
If I am fortunate, this involvement might end up with some of my new (and old) friends and I traveling to Chicago next month. Which reminds me, I better get off the computer soon and get ready to go to the fundraiser for the busing for Chicago.
As for the RADIO SHOW...I am so sorry to inform all of you that the STATION got canceled and was beyond my control. However, I have been speaking with Occupiers in other cities of the planet such as London and people in this more global discussion group are excited about the notion of some sort of radio platform. If that happens, I will keep you posted! I would love to eventually see a really cool 24/7 interactive global Occupy Radio show. (I use the term "radio" loosely of course.)
